You don’t have to consume porn like Johnny Depp consumes wine to know that the money shot in pornographic videos often consists of a superhuman volcanic eruption that appears to be capable of filling a mega pint glass or two. I don’t make a habit out of bursting people’s bubbles, but *SPOILER ALERT* the ejaculate you’re used to seeing in pornography is often not real.

For all ejaculating persons, adult film stars included, natural semen is a whitish fluid made up of water, plasma, mucus and small amounts of zinc, calcium, protein, citrate, potassium, fructose, glucose, magnesium and lactic acid. Semen can also contain up to 200 to 300 million sperm cells and works to keep these sperm viable on their journey from the testicles to the penis.

Stage semen, on the other hand, can consist of a lot of different ingredients depending on the production and the particular preferences of the actors, directors and videographers. Some of the most common ingredients are methyl cellulose, cornstarch, milk, glycerin, water and egg whites. Cal/OSHA standards for bloodborne pathogens even make it legally necessary in certain situations to use fake semen in porn so that real semen doesn’t come into contact with an actor’s eyes or mouth. 

As far as volume goes, the average real-life ejaculate measures somewhere in the range of 1.5 ml to 5 ml. That’s roughly one-third of a teaspoon to a full teaspoon of liquid. That’s not a lot. Can you imagine seeing a third of a teaspoon of ejaculate in a porno? It would seem (pardon the pun) anticlimactic. All joking aside, if men are accustomed to watching porn stars spewing over 100 times the amount of semen normally ejaculated, it can lead to a bit of an inferiority complex.

Psychological issues around sex and performance can be a real buzzkill when it comes to a healthy sex life. That’s why it’s important that we don’t hold ourselves up to an impossible yardstick. Humans are incapable of ejaculating the volume of semen that you see in porn. Even porn stars can’t, that’s why they use stage semen. That’s the bad news. How to Increase Volume

Pretty much everything that’s good for your health in general is also good for your ejaculatory health. With that in mind, to increase the level of your loads, you can drink more water, quit smoking, reduce stress, exercise at least three times or more a week, and consume foods that are high in antioxidants.
