A Squeaky Clean Guide to Safe Shower Sex

Written by: Dr. Joshua Gonzalez

Save water, shower together! It’s National Shower Together Day and to celebrate Popstar is here with a squeaky-clean guide to safe shower sex. When you aren’t lathering, rinsing and repeating, you could be lusting, thrusting, and moaning. Let’s get wet!

Before we get into some surefire shower sex positions, there are a few need-to-knows that will help make sure your shower sex goes off without a hitch.

Don’t Slip

Nothing kills the mood while you’re trying to ride your partner like a ride in an ambulance. After shower sex, you want to take it to the bedroom, not the emergency room. Shower sex can be a bit treacherous (Taylor’s Version), so it requires some tact. If you are someone who celebrates National Shower Together Day year-round, I would invest in a non-slip mat for the bottom of your tub or shower. While holding onto a towel rack, shower rod, or shelf might seem like a great way to stabilize, keep in mind that most are not designed to support body weight.

Stay Slick

Let’s stay on the slippery topic for a moment, shall we? While our feet and hands may have no trouble staying slick in the shower, other appendages and body parts may need a little help. Our bodies may be wet, but wet and lubricated are two very different things. A silicone-based lube will be your best shower sex buddy. Think of it as a sexy substitute for the bathtime rubber ducky. Silicone-based lubes are designed to withstand water, so they won’t wash away along with the excess body wash.

Condoms

The only thing that might not wash away is semen. Just because you aren’t having sex in the bedroom, doesn’t mean you don’t run the risk of getting pregnant. If you and your partner aren’t looking to start a family, you will need contraception. If you are using condoms as your contraceptive of choice, make sure you put it on prior to getting in the shower as it will become harder (pun intended) to get on once wet. Also, be mindful that the added water may make the condom more susceptible to sliding off. So be thoughtful while you thrust.

Safe Shower Positions

Now that we won’t slip while we stay slick, let’s get into some surefire safe shower sex positions. Unless your shower has a large bench or resembles a carwash, you will most likely want to pick a standing position. One where both participants can have their feet firmly planted on your brand-new non-slip mat.

Doggy

A cliché crowd favorite. There is a lot to be learned from our four-legged friends. Doggy Style is one of the safer shower sex positions, if not the safest. The receiver faces away from their partner while placing their hands on the shower wall for stability. With Doggy Style you can hit it from behind without messing up your spine.

Ballet Dancer

This position is really on point. The Ballet Dancer is another standing sex position, great for penile/vaginal penetration. This position requires one person to raise a leg, hooking it as high as possible above the penetrating partner’s thigh and glutes. The receiver can stabilize themselves by wrapping their arms around their partner’s neck. The penetrator can help by wrapping one arm around the small of their partner’s back while helping to hold up their partner’s leg. This position is great for increased intimacy since partners can face one another and kiss.

Oral

Standing oral is a super safe, non-penetrative way to get your rocks off while you rinse off. The performer bends down on their knees to stimulate their partner. The receiving partner can hold the performer’s shoulders for support while blocking the flow of water so they aren’t getting shot in the face…at least not until the climax ;).

Use Your Head

Let’s continue with the theme of non-penetrative sex. If you need more ideas for non-penetrative sex, simply use your head. Your shower head that is. A removable shower head could turn up the heat from steamy to scorching. The water pressure against your privates coupled with the passion from your partner could be just enough to get you off.

Benefits of Shower Sex

So why shower sex (other than to conserve water and celebrate National Shower Together Day)? There are numerous benefits to shower sex. Shower sex helps relieve tension, makes for easy clean-up, and keeps things interesting.

The hot water and steam from a shower help to relax parts of the body that are susceptible to tension, like the back and shoulders. While the hot water washes over you and your partner, you can wash away the day's stressors and melt away into a steamy sexual fantasy like in the movies.

Let’s face it, sex can be messy, what with all the sweat and bodily fluids from the climax. The great thing about shower sex, is that it virtually eliminates the post sex clean-up time, because it’s built-in. After you and your partner go down on one another, all the mess goes down the drain. Shower sex is efficient, great for a before-work morning romp, and it also preserves your sheets and puts off the dread of laundry day.

Shower sex can also break up the monotony of your routine sex life. Moving from your queen-sized bed to the bathroom could shake things up, giving you a chance to try new positions, while you and your partner get wet and wild.

We hope this squeaky clean guide to safe shower sex has inspired you to get wet and wild this Shower Together Day! Remember to stay safe and save water while you wank.
