We all love and appreciate punctuality. Nothing warrants an eye-roll more than a friend or loved one who says they are "on the way" when they are still standing in a towel. We would all love it if that friend could be on time or even early for once. Sexually speaking however, it is a little different. 

When it comes to ejaculation, the golden rule is the Goldilocks mindset. Or, in this case, Goldi-cocks. We don't want someone to finish too early, and it can also be a little frustrating if it takes too long; we want it juuuust right. But, while there may be such a thing as fashionably late, I'm not sure if the same thing goes for early. Ejaculating prematurely can be a bit disappointing for men and their partners. It's like fireworks going off on the 4th of July when you've barely stepped foot on the beach. You want a little time to get friendly down in the sand with some summer lovin' before the climax! Before we learn how to avoid it, we need to know what it is. Premature ejaculation is technically finishing within one minute of penetration. Fortunately, there are several ways to improve your PE.

Cue the Laganja Estranja "I feel very attacked" meme. One of the easiest things we can do for ourselves is to relax. But I know that is something that is easier said than done. Premature ejaculation is sometimes the result of anxiety or stress. Try techniques such as deep breathing or meditation before sex. 

We understand that when you are having a spontaneous roll in the hay, asking your partner if you can pause for a brief meditation may be a boner killer. Perhaps during oral sex, you can do a four-count breath. This might also help with your gag reflex if you are performing oral sex on a penis. If you are with a long-term partner and are both aware that PE may hinder your sex life, then you can do a breathing exercise together. Perhaps it may feel silly, but a well-timed climax is worth some breathing exercises.

Kegel exercises and strengthening your pelvic floor are effective methods of improving PE. A kegel is an exercise that involves contracting and relaxing your pelvic floor. For example, think about the muscles you would use to stop your stream when going to the bathroom. These are the same muscles that control ejaculation. To strengthen these muscles, simply contract for five seconds and then relax for an additional five. Repeat this cycle ten times, several times a day. 

The great thing about Kegels is they can be done anytime, anyplace. So whether you're sitting at your desk, commuting to and from work, or even while you're on a Zoom call that could've been an email, there is always time for Kegels. 

A great way to fight PE is to reduce your penis' sensitivity before a shag. Some sprays, wipes, and even condoms use a delay spray that numbs the penis, allowing you to last longer in bed. But it is important to consult a doctor before trying to water down your willy all willy-nilly.

Shooting your wad way too early? Try giving your shaft a little squeeze. This technique involves squeezing the base of the penis for a few seconds when you feel like you are getting close. This process can help delay orgasm. Simply squeeze, release, and wait 30 seconds before you continue the dick down.

When discussing our own carrots, a Bugs Bunny reference seems appropriate. In all seriousness though, if you try these methods and are still experiencing premature ejaculation it may be time to consult your primary care provider or a urologist. They may be able to shed some light on the situation and rule out any other medical conditions that may be contributing to your PE. Your provider also may be able to prescribe an SSRI (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor), which in some cases has helped men with premature ejaculation. 

Remember, PE is common and nothing to be embarrassed about. Hopefully, these methods will have you ejaculating right on time!
